Every town needs a night scene no matter how big or small.
And as small as it is Grahamstown can be the QUEEN of nights out.
As much as she can boost your success she can also be your downfall and so here you have it.
A guide to the Grahamstown club scene and where to get gracefully inebriated.

Champs
Not your regular pool hall, Champs welcomes guests with great deals for drinks and a friendly and vibrant atmosphere. If you’re into live music why not try out one of their several mic nights, where they host a variety of genres and performers while you enjoy the satisfaction of getting great bargains for booze.
Friar Tuck’s
Those casual enough with Friar’s will know that one of the best ways to really kick off your night is to grab their jug special and gear up for a lit night. The nightspot’s resident DJs are guaranteed to get you up and strut your stuff on the vibrant dancefloor, and the two bars on separate floors have a good selection to entertain customers. Students religiously attend, and Friar’s doesn’t disappoint.
Goldrush Casino
Feeling lucky? Goldrush Casino has you covered with gaming and entertainment till the early hours of the morning and a decently stocked restaurant and bar in case you feel peckish or otherwise, though I wouldn’t recommend alcohol and gambling personally lol.
The Rat & Parrot
The Rat & Parrot holds a well-earned reputation as a mainstay of Grahamstown night life, right in the mix of things. The staff members are friendly and full of energy, and host their nights well. With several bar and seating areas the Rat is very versatile and whether you’re looking to settle in with friend and have their “Tower” of selected draught beer, or your favourite shooters and cocktails, ‘The Rat’ is definitely somewhere you can reliably go for a good time.
Olde’ 65
Affectionately called Oldies, this pub has a really established feel to it, and has its fair share of up tempo nights. They are not found wanting when it comes to affordable drinks and even when they don’t host a DJ the music makes for a good vibe till late. Regrettably though the kitchens aren’t open all night, which is a shame because their food is quite tasty!
Prime
Taking a very focused approach to their atmosphere, Prime presents party goers with a worthy club scene. The interior has a very clean and contemporary finish with funky touches of colour. The music follows suite, and whether it is deep house or trap house you can be sure the night won’t be a letdown.
Rustic Route
A new entry in the list of Grahamstown spots, Rustic Route is a very spacious and friendly location to enjoy a nice meal or a couple of drinks with friends. The restaurant has good service and is a great place to kick off the night.
37 on New
37 on New is an alternative, more underground scene for Grahamstown providing for those looking to dance till daybreak and head home exhausted but more than satisfied. With electronic, deep house and heavy dub music favoured here you’re pretty sure to keep groovy especially with the good bar service even during peak time.
