When it comes to shopping Grahamstown can be slightly limited. Though it can be discouraging when you feel that need for a shopping fix coming on, the good thing about this is that it allows for more originality and creativity when it comes to compiling your outfits and what you can find in stores.

Local boutiques can deliver up surprising treasures and thrift stores can render incredible finds with amazing DIY prospects if you know where to look and as every shopaholic knows it's possible to find a little something in every store!

Check out the store list below to see where you can get some awesome finds and also our Online Store Directory to see where you can get great deals delivered to you!

Clothing

Choice
| CLOTHING | SHOES | ACCESSORIES |
Amongst some of the major chain stores in High Street, Choice clothing is one of those stores you'd probably give a pass on the street for their drab window displays but if you look inside you'll find some treasures. Choice resells clothing that has slight defects or just hasn't sold out by other brands. For this reason amongst their gems, you might find super in-trend and high-quality pieces at the average price of about R100! I found the cutest New Look wedges and some legendary Leggings in here and I'm always going back for more.

Jumbo
| CLOTHING | SHOES | ACCESSORIES |
Jumbo Clothing has very much the same base concept as Choice and though there can be a lot more to search through it's definitely possible to find some great deals. Their shoe section often leaves a lot to be desired but they often sell quite high-brand knitwear at ridiculously cheap prices. If you're looking for something a bit more conservative as opposed to "in-trend" they have an extensive range of longer maxi skirts of various prints.

Talls Fashions
| CLOTHING | SHOES | ACCESSORIES |
Talls Fashions is just one of many of this genre in Grahamstown. If you are familiar with Small street in Johannesburg you will understand that by genre I refer to stores that resell clothing coming from China. I.e. The 'real life' Instagram boutiques. They sell everything on trend and if not, over-trend. If you want a velvet lounge set or a ribbed lace-up bodysuit and you're not too hung up on the quality then this is the place to go. Talls has a store situated on High Street next to Steers and another with a more extensive collection in Bathhurst.

The Nearly New Shop
| CLOTHING | SHOES |
The Nearly New Shop is a second-hand store or in a more Tumblr way of speaking the thrift store. Though I have yet to find anything other than customizable I have been able to source some really beautiful pieces and materials from there. The other great feature of this store is that if you're looking to sell your second-hand clothes or you need some extra cash you can take your clothes there and she will price them and possibly buy them from you for her own resale.

Wallaces Pharmacy
| ACCESSORIES | MAKE-UP & COSMETICS | JEWELLERY | DECOR |
As a pharmacy Wallaces can be a pretty confusing place but when it comes to make-up beauty and skin care they have some precious finds usually at good prices. And there's actually a Spa inside this pharmacy! They don't usually stock up on much in the beauty department but when they do you'll find Revlon nail polish for under R100 and Maybelline foundation at a discounted price!

Ultimate Toys & Gifts
| ACCESSORIES | MAKE-UP & COSMETICS | JEWELLERY | DECOR |
Ultimate Toy's and Gifts, a.k.a "U-Tag", and also known as "T&G's is one of the students' favourites. The owner is always friendly and inside is a wonderland of treats. Whether it's sterling silver rings or a bong you're looking for you can find everything at T&G's. Giftbags, Halloween Costumes, Mothers day cards or sex-toys, you name it they have it. Though their jewellery can be pretty random they have some more expensive pieces that are definitely unique. At Ultimate Toys and Gifts value for money is never a problem and the service so Stellar you'll be happy to go back again.

Under The Arch
| CLOTHING | ACCESSORIES | JEWELLERY |
Under the Arch is a Grahamstonian classic and there's no telling what treasure one may find. The store sometimes sells items for other small retail owners and they sell any number of trinkets from bohemian father earrings to Indian ankle bracelets and I almost guarantee all Grahamstown natives bought their hippie pants from Under the Arch. They also sell food and snacks from fruit to baked goods. Though there have been some dodgy experiences with the chicken mayo on a hot summers day their takeaway salads and chocolate brownies are to die for!

Knights Shoes
| SHOES |
Though Knights shoes looks from the outside to stock only orthopaedic sandals and knock-off Adidas there can be some really cool finds inside. That old, old lesson; don't judge a book by its cover! They sometimes stock some absolutely awesome sneaker dupes that are definitely not fake and they usually stock the cutest jelly sandals in the summer.

Street Fever
| CLOTHING | SHOES |
Street Fever stocks most popular sneaker brands and guess what? They let you purchase on lay-by! Isn't that awesome? Street Fever is usually well stocked up on cute Adidas and they have really colourful Nike running shoes. Payment plans are flexible and the store is your best bet if you're looking for branded urban footwear in Grahamstown.

Local Online Shops

Boho Chic
| CLOTHING | ACCESSORIES |
Stockist's of all things crochet.  Boho Chic is a bohemian themed clothing line that makes two-piece sets, bikinis and crochet crop tops. Grahamstown locals can order on Facebook or take a look at their Instagram page. Students can find the brand every Friday at the Kaif where they often sell additional accessories at a lower price such as braid clips and lipstick pepper sprays. The brand is super on trend and it's great to support local artists, especially since Boho Chic makes a conscious decision to employ locals

Castim Furniture
| FURNITURE | DECOR |
Interested in minimalist design? Or just hoping to get a cheap side-table or island made? Castim Furniture lets you design and purchase your furniture or else you have the option of buying from one of their many minimalist designs at a good price. Furniture made to order tends to be quite expensive but their own collections range from R300 and upwards.

| ACCESSORIES | JEWELLERY |
Online retailer for original handmade jewellery. Their range extends from chokers and crystal pendants to silver wire rings and they ship all over South Africa should you place an order online. Their trinkets make really cute gifts because the packaging is really unique and the 90's choker babes will love their selection of necklaces with interchangeable pendants.

| JEWELLERY |
The go-to girl for rinds and things the owner of Grahamstown Gems is super friendly. Her stuff comes from abroad and hence it's always easy to find pieces that are on trend. Though the jewellery is primarily costume it has great durability and can be super unique making them the perfect pieces to pimp up your outfit of the week! Find them on their Facebook page or else at the SupUrban Market.

| CLOTHING |
This is a recently formed student-owned business that sells popular Instagram style clothing. Velvet shorts, Bandeau tops and kimono are some of their best sellers and they have great prices as well as quality. If you're looking for something you've seen on the gram that's affordable and easy to make don't hesitate to inbox them to see if it can be made.

Second Hand Grahamstown
| CLOTHING | SHOES | ACCESSORIES | MAKE-UP & COSMETICS | JEWELLERY | FURNITURE | DECOR
Despite being a 'closed group' pretty much anyone can join Second Hand Grahamstown's Facebook Group. The group page is the most effective when it comes to finding bargain deals and second-hand stuff here in Grahamstown and the number of students looking for some extra cash means that not everything is second hand and it's possible to find some brand new items at a steal if you're willing to scroll. You can also use the group as a platform to promote your own goods and organize sales.
