Finding someone to do your hair can be tricky.
Especially, if you really like to make sure they get to know your hair type before they start messing with it.
Though my personal experience with finding a haircare specialist for my hair-type in Grahamstown unsuccessful I have heard (and witnessed) miracles being performed and so have compiled a list of some of the most popular and affordable salons about town and as many of the services on offer that I could find!
Hair and Beauty on High
Situated on high street between Jacksons and Absa this salon used to be a bridal salon and now plays host to three different ladies renting space. There is Irene, the super friendly and talented nail technician, who can give you a popping full set for only R150. Then there's Kara's Salon where she works on all types of hair and trust me she knows what she's doing. Not to mention she can, cut, that, dye to perfection and if your hair has suffered damage or been abused in the past she can fix it up with some TLC and have you leave with the bounciest, frizz-free style you've ever had. Though we didn't catch the name of the lady who own the braiding station, they were all very lovely and I saw the neatest, nicest braids I've seen so far in Grahamstown. Had me wishing I had gone to Hair and Beauty on High when I got my own braids (they were super chunky and mismatched in size).
Salon Gavroche
Salon Gavroche is located in High Street and provide treatments or cut and dye's on more caucasian hair types. As someone with curly hair I wouldn't reccommend you go their for a cut or you might leave with feathered tips or a cut that only works when you're hair is blow dried. Not to mention I've had friends come out with truly awful haircuts and I myself have had terrible experiences in which the front of my hair is two different lengths. Not a great look. If you are looking for a keratin treatment (otherwise called a Brazilian Blowout ) I believe that they are the ones to go to, though they will overcharge but if you're willing to take the risk there have definitely been a few success stories.
Salon Tippin'
A family business, Tippin' falls pretty much along the same lines as Gavroche. They colour hair really well so if you're looking for a dye job that leaves your hair with a lot of bounce and shine make sure to book your appointment. The staff are very friendly and it's usually easy booking.
Ubuhle's Hair & Beauty House
This salon is best for those with more ethnic hair. They offer braiding, blowouts and perms and also have a selection of boutique items such as shoes and handbags on offer. They also do barber cuts so your boyfriend doesn't have to wait with nothing to do and they are quite new so bookings are readily available.
